About the Festival

The Karachi Film Festival is a bold new platform celebrating independent cinema in Pakistan and beyond. Its inaugural edition will showcase films produced during the Quetta Film Lab alongside curated international films & Local Pakistani films offering audiences a diverse mix of stories and voices.

Spanning two days, 31st January & 1st February, MKFF will feature in person screenings, panel talks with industry experts, and a 20-day online edition for wider access. With a focus on independent storytelling, mentorship, and cross-cultural exchange, the festival aims to nurture local talent, connect filmmakers with audiences, and position Karachi as a hub for cinematic creativity.

Panelists Day 1

Syra Yousuf

Syra Yousuf is a celebrated Pakistani actor making her producing debut with Shireen. She combines her television and film experience with a commitment to meaningful storytelling and creative entrepreneurship through her label StudioSY.

Haya Fatima Iqbal

Haya Fatima Iqbal is an Oscar and Emmy-winning documentary filmmaker whose work creates real impact in communities across Pakistan. She co-founded the Documentary Association of Pakistan, mentoring filmmakers locally and internationally. She is also a Fulbright alumna and Associate Professor of Practice at Habib University.

Muhammad Ali Rizvi

Muhammad Ali Rizvi is a trained actor and faculty member at NAPA, with extensive theatre and film experience. He co-produced the feature Madaari and focuses on storytelling that challenges mainstream narratives while mentoring emerging performers.

Ali Sohail Jaura

Ali Sohail Jaura is an award-winning independent filmmaker and advertising director from Karachi. He has directed over 100 commercials and internationally acclaimed short films, including Murder Tongue and A Better Place, earning 45+ awards and 100+ festival selections worldwide.

Muhammad Raheel

Muhammad Raheel is a media and business professional leading Sales & Partnerships at Myco Pakistan. He has extensive experience across broadcast, digital, and content ecosystems, driving strategic collaborations and audience engagement.

Kanwal Khoosat

Kanwal Khoosat is a producer and production designer whose films, including Joyland and Zindagi Tamasha, have received international acclaim. She is Executive Director of Olomopolo Media and a festival curator, bridging creative vision with cultural impact.

Abid Aziz Merchant

Abid Aziz Merchant is a Pakistani motion picture producer with films screened at SXSW, Tokyo, Venice, and Red Sea festivals. He has produced acclaimed features and shorts, including 1978 and Mulaqat, focusing on narratives that resonate deeply with audiences.

Ali Kazmi

Ali Kazmi is a versatile artist and a graduate of the National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA) with a diploma in acting. His work spans theatre, television, and film as both an actor and director, with additional experience as a writer and acting coach. This multifaceted background gives him a deep and insightful perspective on storytelling.

Phil McKenzie is an award-winning producer, investor, and co-founder of myco. He previously co-founded Goldfinch, investing $250M+ in 300+ projects, including Oscar- and BAFTA-winning films, and works to expand global access for filmmakers.

Jami (Jamshed Mahmood Raza)

Jami is an acclaimed Pakistani filmmaker and founder of Azad Film Company. Known for 021 and Moor, Pakistan’s official Oscar submission, he is recognized for bold visuals and socially engaged storytelling across film and advertising.

Asghar Ali Ghanchi

Asghar Ali Ghanchi is a Pakistani director and cinematographer, and founder of Cinebotic Labs. With a background in computer engineering, he explores AI-assisted filmmaking while advancing conversations on technology and cinematic storytelling.

Now with the open call started on 30th December for every independent film maker, it aims to amplify and promote the independent film makers who are experienced or are still students by bringing their films closer to its audiences.

Quetta Film Showcase

Quetta film showcase was a community initiative for Quetta film makers which was powered by myco where 20 filmmakers were Selected for this festival in Quetta. From it, 10 quality films were released from Quetta Film lab which were streamed in Quetta region only, at the time. Later, these 10 films, along with other international films were streamed on the platform of Quetta film showcase festival. Now, these ten films are scheduled to be replayed in My Karachi Film Festival in its dedicated segment of Stories From Quetta.
